A GODDESS WORKSHOP FOR PLAYWRIGHTS
Saturday, May 22nd 1-4pm |
| This 3-hour playwriting workshop explores goddess identity and the “archetypal feminine” for playwrights. We’ll examine the power of myth, and sample ancient depictions of divine feminine deities from Aristophanes, Sophocles, Euripides and Sappho. We'll discuss if/how these relate to our understanding of the “active female” in today’s theater. We’ll move next to exercises, and brainstorm about how playwrights can use goddess myths as springboards for new plays, new adaptations and new approaches. Each participant will leave with a list of references and exercises for future exploration. (No previous myth experience necessary.) |

The original piece was presented as part of The LAWTP’s 20% New Works Festival in September, 2008, (which featured the works of KG MacGregor, Lisa Girolami and Gabrielle Goldsby).
